Touring around Cape Tenaron in Mani, South Peloonnese Greece

This video created by Nick Kouzos and his wife Vanda Roumpani during an excursion from Mavrovounio around cape Tenaron in the wider area of Mani in the Peloponnese Greece during June 2015.

Mani is a historical region of Peloponnese that covers the Peninsula of Taygetus.

Geographically the main Mani or «Mesa Mani» as it is called locally, is defined by the nape of Taygetos, Sagias and ends at Cape Tainaro.

The route includes Gerolimenas and one of the most beautiful caves in the world located on the west coast of the Laconic Peninsula in the Bay of Dirou, beneath the austere landscape of Mani ..

Place rugged, imposing, that generated proud people.

East Mani has loyal friends and numerous visitors all year round. Historical seat of Eastern Mani is Areopolis, the cradle of Mavromichali family.

On our trip we were urged and guided by our friend Antonis Nikolarakis Mauromichalis descendant of the famous family. So we did not go unprepared

Gerolimenas in Mani,  is starring the recent years in numerous tributes both in the Greek media and in the foreign, as one of the leading off the beaten track destinations in the Mediterranean!

Finally, I dedicate this video to my Sister Olympia Pieroutsakos in memory of her husband Christos Pieroutsakos who recently left us.

Ταξίδι στον Αχέροντα

This video was taken by Nick Kouzos and his wife Vanda Roubanis during a short visit to Parga in Epiros in August 2015
This gave us the opportunity to take a boat trip in Acheron River the mythical entry to the underworld.
For anybody with an impression of Greece as a country with just sunny beaches he will be surprised watching this short video taken during a week end during August 2015.
Apart from the physical beauty of the area the river bears a mythological story from the ancient Greek times. In ancient Greek mythology.
Acheron was known as the river of woe, and was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld. In the Homeric poems the Acheron was described as a river of Hades.
The river has nearby ruins of the Necromanteion discovered as recent as 1953
The Necromanteion or Nekromanteion was an ancient Greek temple of necromancy devoted to Hades and Persephone.. This site was believed by devotees to be the door to Hades, the realm of the dead. The site is at the meeting point of the Acheron, Pyriphlegethon and Cocytus rivers, believed to flow through and water the kingdom of Hades. The meaning of the names of the rivers has been interpreted to be «joyless», «burning coals» and «lament.»

Ταξίδι στις πηγές του Αχέροντα
Στα βουνά του Σουλίου, σε υψόμετρο 1.600 μέτρων, 2 μόλις χλμ. από το χωριό Γλυκή συναντάμε τις πηγές του Αχέροντα. Δημιουργώντας στο πέρασμά του τοπία απέραντης γαλήνης και μοναδικού φυσικού κάλλους, ο ποταμός συνεχίζει απτόητος το αέναο ταξίδι του προς τη θάλασσα εκ βάλλοντας στο Ιόνιο Πέλαγος, στην περιοχή της Αμμουδιάς, ένα χωριό κοντά στην Πάργα
Με αφετηρία τη Γλυκή, εκεί που τους κανόνες του «πάνω κόσμου» ορίζει η φύση και η ξεγνοιασιά, τα ζωηρά, κρυστάλλινα νερά του – πολύ ορμητικά τον χειμώνα, απόλυτα προσβάσιμα το καλοκαίρι – διασχίζουν φαράγγια∙ σχηματίζουν νερόλακκους και μικρές λίμνες∙ φιλοξενούν ένα πολυσύνθετο οικοσύστημα προστατευμένο, μάλιστα, από το Δίκτυο Natura 2000.
Αιωνόβια πλατάνια τον σκιάζουν. Θεόρατοι κατακόρυφοι βράχοι στέκονται φρουροί στο διάβα του. Χιλιάδες πουλιά δοξάζουν την ομορφιά του ξορκίζοντας έτσι την «μυθική θλίψη» στο όνομα της χαράς της ζωής!
Από την εποχή του Ομήρου κιόλας, ο ποταμός Αχέροντας είχε ταυτιστεί με το θάνατο, καθώς σύμφωνα με την αρχαία ελληνική μυθολογία, ο «ψυχοπομπός» Ερμής έκανε τον διάπλου του, παραδίδοντας τις ψυχές των νεκρών στον Χάροντα για να καταλήξουν στο βασίλειο του Άδη.
Η κάθε ψυχή, περνώντας από το πορθμείο του Χάροντα, έπρεπε να δώσει από έναν οβολό για τη μεταφορά, ενώ αξιοσημείωτη είναι η περίπτωση του Μένιππου, τον οποίο αναφέρει ο Λουκιανός, ως τον μοναδικό που διέσχισε τον Αχέροντα χωρίς να πληρώσει

Το βίντεο τραβήχτηκε από τον Νίκο Κούζο κατά την διάρκεια διακοπών με την σύζυγό του Βάντα Ρουμπάνη. τον Ιούλιο του 2015.
Τοποθεσία είναι το ξενοδοχειακό συγκρότημα Candia Park Village που βρίσκεται κοντά στον Άγιο Νικόλαο στο νομό Λασιθίου στην Κρήτη. Το βίντεο περιλαμβάνει και το εστιατόριο του ξενοδοχείου Elounda Mare όπου στο πιάνο παίζει ο φίλος μουσικός Αβατάγγελος
